Vital Review

We have been away from blogland for quite a while. That's because we have been out enjoying our summer, oh, and because Mom is a slacker. We hope to make a return to the blog world soon and increase the frequency of our posts and commenting. Now on to the reason for this post...

Recently, we had the opportunity to try out a yummilicious new doggie food. The kind people at Freshpet sent us their new fresh doggie food for us to try and review. First we'll tell you a little about the food, although most of you have probably heard about it from some of our furiends that also gave it a try.

This comes directly from the Vital website. The Vital food is inspired by nature. It is meat-based, grain-free, and antioxident rich. They provide four different recipes that are sure to please even the pickiest of pooches.

There is the Salmon & Ocean Whitefish recipe. This food is "for dogs requiring a unique source of protein. Salmon is an excellent source of naturally occurring Omega 3 oils which are beneficial to the immune system, encourage healthy skin and coat, and improve joint mobility and reduce inflammation in all age groups."

The Turkey recipe is "for dogs that do well on poultry or when limiting the number of ingredients is important to the dog’s diet."

The Bison & Beef recipe is "for dogs that perform well on lean red meat. Bison also contains a high concentration of iron."

The Chicken, Beef, Salmon & Egg recipe is "for dogs that require a wide spectrum of amino acids from a multiple protein variety. A variety of proteins from multiple sources helps prevent protein sensitivities in some dogs."

We have to say that ALL of these recipes were furry yummy! When we saw the cutting board come out (cuz the hoomans have to cut it into chunks for our little mouths), we would go all cracker dog and run to the kitchen doorway. We, of course, have to rely solely on taste to review this food and leave all the ingredient contemplation to the hoomans, but we give this food five out of five paws!

Okay, now Mom says she needs to say a few things. Take it away Mom.

Thanks Munchkins. Hi furiends! Munchkin Mommy here. I just wanted to add a few things to the Munchkins' review of Vital. We were sent a package containing a roll of each of their 4 recipes along with two bags of their yummy treats. When the package first arrived, we were at the end of a kibble switch (more on that later...hopefully). The kibble switch had been going well up until the very last days. The kibble contained 5 or 6 different types of fish and I think it was just too rich for the Munchkins' little tummies. So, since we had the Vital I decided it was as good a time as any to try it out. We started out with the Turkey recipe because it would be easiest on their tummies. When I tell you they tried to devour it in 2 seconds I am not exaggerating. The Munchkins' loved it and their tummy issues created by the kibble switch went away.

Each new flavor we introduced, they loved. I was most anxious to see how they liked the fish and it went over very well. I did notice that they both got slightly constipated after the first sleeve of food, but I am 99% certain that had to do with their issues with the kibble before and would have resolved itself given more time on the Vital.

As most of you know, I spend a good bit of time educating myself about dog food and new foods that come out. I only want the very best for my Munchkins. I have been very impressed with everything I have read, heard, and experienced with the Vital food. The ingredients are top notch and I really like that the food is fresh. If I had the time, I would love to cook meals for my little Munchkins, but that just isn't a possibility for us. Vital is the next best thing.

The only negative thing I can say about Vital is the fact that nowhere close to me carries it yet. The closest place is in downtown Charleston and although it is only physically 10 miles away, the traffic that is ever-present downtown makes it more like 30 minutes away plus the time it takes to find parking. I will definitely be making an effort to continue with the Vital. Now I just have to find the time to make a trip downtown to stock up on it. I hope to supply the Munchkins' with a kibble breakfast and a Vital dinner. I just hope that some of the dog boutiques and stores closer to us will start carrying it so it is more easily available to us.

I encourage all you doggie Moms and Dads to visit the Freshpet website, the Freshpet blog, and the Vital website to learn more about this food.

Welcome to Vital! Chewy & Lilibell loved Vital too, but like you, the downside is that it's just so hard to find to purchase. That's why, even though I loved it and they loved it, I had to switch them to another food :(
